Action Tool Case Study

Background

Basalite has been using BasicSafe products since 2015. Prior to implementing BasicSafe, Basalite was relying on email to assign actionable items to team members, which doesn’t provide an automated way to follow up on whether items are done. This created a challenge in remembering who was responsible for which task and when it should be completed.

Basalite had undergone a series of extensive audits and needed a better system for tracking corrective action items when a hazard was discovered. The company wanted training documents, photos, due dates, priorities and responses kept in one location, as well as the ability to follow it through to completion or abatement of the hazard.

STRATEGY

Basalite learned of BasicSafe and began implementing it, initially with a webinar for its EHS coordinators across its 20 locations. Once action items from audit reports were published in BasicSafe, each EHS coordinator was coached individually until they were well-versed in using the software. The key was to have a uniform format and process and one place to store all actions, rather than have 20 various ways to handle actions.

RESULTS

With BasicSafe in place, Basalite has been able to successfully address and track audit items through to completion. They are able to hold their manufacturing locations accountable for tasks they have and haven’t completed. The integration of the JSA and Action tools have helped improve task completion rates and clarify who has completed or abated an action item and when.
